Steve Walker, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Talent and Appointments (MOTA) is long-time political and community organizer with over 25 years experience as an advocate, planner and manager of issues impacting community development, workforce development and quality of life. Steve has served on local, state and national campaigns and lead programs to engage communities on a variety of issues, including voting rights, civil rights, LGBT equality, offender re-entry, homelessness and HIV/AIDS. Prior to joining the Bowser Administration, Steve served as Executive Director of iVote – a grassroots-organizing group committed to expanding voting rights, and prior to that was Acting National Political Director at the Democratic National Committee.
In leading this new office, Steve is committed to MOTA’s mission of expanding opportunities for District residents to serve by identifying the best and brightest for leadership roles in the government or on boards and commissions.
An adopted Washingtonian, Steve holds a Bachelor’s of Science from Prairie View A&M University in Texas.
